If you are insecure buying it, will you be secure enough to install it? It's not as easy as unscrewing the case, you'll need to apply a bit of force to the case. _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

Yeah, I should be OK to install it.
I'm just worried buying something on the net that might not work... harder to get a refund!
So here we go... Can someone explain it to me so I can stop asking myself what to look for?
What does DDR, 333 Mhz, PC2700 and SDRAM means, really? What should I look for, and what can be different from the specs in the mini?
Thanks...

It specifies the type and speed of the RAM you need, although I think some of the information is redundent, i.e. pc2700 is 333mhz. The only think to watch out for is single channel vs. dual channel, you don't want dual channel, if it doesn't say dual, it's single. Most places that sell ram will list all the items you mentioned, so it's just a matter of looking in the list for what you want. If you stick with a good brand like Kingston, you won't have a problem and online prices can be half of retail. I've had great success with newegg. _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

Thank you very much.
Just so I can understand, on newegg, if I choose the speed PC2700, it says PC2700 (DDR333 166Mhz).
In the mini's specs, it says PC2700 (333MHz) DDR.
I just wonder what those speeds (333MHz, 166MHz) mean, considering that it is obviously the same kind of Ram.
And what is the difference between cheap and Kingston RAM?
Sorry to bother; I'm a teacher! I need to understand!!!

Yeah, I think the Apple specs should just say pc2700 ddr333. You can always get faster too I think, so pc3200 will work too, just make sure it's not dual channel stuff. I think the Apple specs also say non-ECC too right? (though I'm not sure, I get non-ECC cause it's cheaper)
The difference between good and cheap is the same as always, perhaps the creation process isn't as good, perhaps it's not quite up to spec, etc. Apple tends to be picky about RAM and other hardware, so I think it's best to go with the good instead of the cheap. _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

| Mine came w/ PC3200 so that's what I bought. Not that it matters because of the bus limitiation, but at least I'll be able to use the RAM longer (in other machines). |

PC3200 is backwards compatible with PC2700. Bubba's right about getting the PC3200! My only advice would be to get your RAM from a reputable dealer. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Thanks,
I finally bought DDR 400 Samsung from a store in Toronto. Newegg doesn't seem to deliver in Canada. 189$ (Can), so about 150 U$. Maybe I could have it cheaper, but the guy guaranteed compatibility, which is worth something for a nervous buyer like me!
