Does the 2012 Mini benefit from having an external 7200 RMP boot drive?

I've heard the factory installed 5400 described as pokey.

If the 7200 rpm boot drive is USB 3 or Thunderbolt yes.
If not, no.

Even better put an SSD in a USB 3 or Thunderbolt enclosure and increase your boot drive speed by 3X or 4X
