Apple Announces USB Power Adapter Takeback Program
Monday, August 5, 2013
Posted by: Staff

Apple has announced a new USB Power Adapter Takeback Program in the wake of recent issues with third-party USB power adapters for the iPhone, iPod, and iPad. According to the company, this program allows users to purchase one Apple USB power adapter at a special discounted price of $10 starting on August 16th, 2013. To qualify, you must turn in at least one USB power adapter and bring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to an Apple Retail Store or participating Apple Authorized Service Provider for serial number validation. The special pricing on Apple USB power adapters is limited to one adapter for each iPhone, iPad, and iPod you own and is valid until October 18th, 2013.

It's a nice gesture, but Apple is still making money on them for $10. An even nicer gesture would be to lower the overall price of their adapters and cables. That would probably prevent people from buying the shoddy ones in the first place.

Agreed. They should have been like $9.99 to begin with. Now I just need to find my cheapo to trade in. I would rather have an official spare in the drawer.

Does anyone know if Best Buy is participating in the program?

I doubt it. It indicates Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Best Buy is an Apple Authorized Reseller, they are not an Apple Authorized Service Provider (at least this is the case in Canada).

Okay, thanks for the reply. I should have thought about the difference of reseller and service. Embarassed
