Posted by: Staff

Apple today released the iTunes 11.0.4 update via their Mac App Store and website for direct download. According to the company, this minor update addresses a bug that would cause iTunes to quit when users switched between wired and wireless syncing. It also fixes an issue that caused some users to have to log into the iTunes store repeatedly during use. The iTunes 11.0.4 update weighs in at 187.52MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later.

I wonder if any iRadio stuff is buried in this update? I would imagine that it's going to be part of iTunes on the desktop side.

I would like to see Maps, iBooks and iRadio all come to OS X as separate apps. With the latter not being integrated with iTunes.

iBooks not being on the Mac is a real puzzler for me. Why is it missing?

I have a few multimedia iBooks which I rarely read but would do if I could read them on the Mac. I slowly work through them on the iPad but would much prefer to be able to read them on the Mac.

Saying that, iBooks is also very buggy for me on the iPad (iPad 1) and it does crash a lot, and is very slow to start up especially with these media rich books. Its not too bad with plain books and pdfs but with the multimedia ones I have more or less given up with it. My Kindle on the other hand gets daily use and I tend to choose that format for plain text books.

My wife uses the Kindle app across all platforms. That's really what Apple needs to do with iBooks. It should taken beyond iOS. In fact, why stop with the regular platforms. An iBooks app for the Apple TV could even bring those multimedia iBooks to the next level.

It looks like iBooks is coming to OS X Mavericks. I saw a book icon on the dock in the live event video.
