I just bought a Mac Mini MC438LL/A with Snow Leopard Server, should I keep SL server on it or move up to Mountain Lion 10.8.3 ? I plan to use as a media server for streaming by iTunes or Plex.. Also in the future I may setup a web site..

I would get the LION OS period and forget about ML. ML takes up to much memory and is not that great. No real big improvement from Lion to ML.

Embarassed I'd take that advice with a pinch of salt Embarassed

Between Mountain Lion and Lion I'd always pick Mountain Lion. I think of Lion as the Mac version of Windows Vista. It was the bloatware OS of Mac OS X. and compared to Snow Leopard, both Lion and Mountain Lion need more resources, but Mountain Lion is by far the better of the two.

For an answer to your original question though I'd follow Bill's advice. Snow Leopard is the better choice than Lion. The main problem going forward is a lot of newer apps will insist on Mountain Lion.

As an example When I was on Snow Leopard I was forced to upgraded to Lion to keep my Mac's in Sync, such as bookmarks, calendar, contacts etc. I was a Mobile Me user and stupidly allowed my account to be upgraded to iCloud, only to later find out that iCloud wasn't fully supported with Snow Leopard and so I lost the ability to sync my machines unless I upgraded them. So I moved over to Lion kicking and screaming. Sad Mountain Lion is a much better but I'd be much happier if I was still using Snow Leopard.

Most users on this site (and the internet forums in general) are Snow Leopard fans. Moving forward its likely that Lion and Mountain Lion will get further refined, with updates. Plex and iTunes will also get updates.

If you are just setting things up, it might make sense to upgrade to Mountain Lion as it will obviously be supported for long by Plex and Apple.

To each his own.To me ML just gives more apps that are a waste of time.SL was good also.
