Are the new Mac Minis quieter, as quiet or noisier than the G4 Mini of 2005?

I have 2 of the latter; both noisier than my MBPro...

thank you for any info!

I don't have a 2012, but I do have a 2005 and a 2011.

I was just running Handbrake on the 2011 last night. I didn't hear much if anything. So I would say it's much quieter than my 2005 when the 2005 is really working and that fan starts moving some air.

I think the 2010-2012 models are much quieter than their predecessors. I'm sure the MagLev fan has a lot to do with that too.

More blades and magnetic bearings. This design was improved on even more with the 2012 Mac mini. It has even smaller blades than the 2011 Mac minis. You can see the difference in the picture down below.

wow.

I take it more/smaller blades = more airflow at a given RPM, meaning more cooling at lower RPM and less noise?

that has me fairly geeking out here!

Very Happy

I don't think they are asymmetrical shaped blades though. Those and the next-generation Haswell chips will probably mean a dead silent Mac mini if you are running a SSD. That being said, my 2010 Mac mini is pretty near silent. More so than previous Mac minis I've owned.

the next Mini will be built around these Haswell chips?

I like the idea of a near silent and even faster mini...I think it's my all-time favorite form factor for computer ever...

One would assume so seeing that Apple has basically followed Intel's roadmap with the Mac mini. And they are said to have better and or lower thermal properties. Not to mention better performance. I'm thinking we could see them in the Fall. Perhaps even with the release of the 10.9 cat.

The Mac mini certainly seems to be getting better treatment than it did in the past. It would be nice to see an early update reflecting a consistent yearly update cycle.

Yes, this looks promising. The more people I talk to, the more it seems that the Mini - even the slower models - have more than enough power to do what people need.

and you just can't beat the size and design...

Mine makes almost no noise, which is important since I use it as a HTPC Wink
