I have an 8-core 2009 "Nehalem" Mac...2.26ghz..

Still a decent machine but as it gets older, and therefore loses more value, I am thinking about replacing it with a Mac Mini.

I don't expect any of the current Minis to beat my Mac Pro, but perhaps next year's will? I do expect to gain lots of space and quiet.

Any thoughts on the models out there, advice to wait to see what the next round of Minis brings?

thank you!

I do not know what you do with your mac pro.

But a 2012 quad 2.3 is a good piece of gear. A refurbished 2012 quad is about 679 at apple store.

the max ram is 105

this mini will have a 1tb internal slow hdd. add this as an external booter.

cost about 1k for all 3 pieces setup is quick and easy. this will pretty much beat a 2009 mac pro in many but not all cases. the new 2013 mini if it comes in the fall will be better.

1. Adobe Creative Suite 6
2. Web Dev (hand coding)
3. 3D rendering/animation
4. A little video..iMovie right now, possibly FCP down the road.

I see that the Mini is neither "Buy Now" or "Do Not Buy Now" relative to the latest ones released...anyone have a sense of whether a serious revision is on the way, or whether the mini just released is going to be "it' for now?

thank you!

that seems about right...

what informs your guess? Spider sense, or online rumors?
