Apple Improves Apple ID Security with Two-Step Verification
Thursday, March 21, 2013
Posted by: Staff
Apple today introduced a new two-step verification service for Apple ID and iCloud users to improve the security of their accounts. This two-step verification requires users to verify their identity on a trusted device, with an extra security code, before they can make changes to their account or make purchases. It basically does this by sending the extra security code to your device via SMS. You can start using the two-step verification now by logging into the Apple ID website and enabling the service. It's under the Password and Security section on the left hand side.

| It's nice to see Apple add this feature. I've been using it with my Google accounts for a while now. |

I'm not certain of all the details, but what happens if your original device was lost, stolen or broken?
I'm glad it's an option. |

I'm not sure about all of the details either. You have to wait two days before it gets activated. I know with Google you can just revoke the device. You can also trust other computers, so it's not a one or only deal. You also have a recovery code. Here's some more information from Apple on their setup. I really haven't had a chance to read it yet.
