|
|
It has been a long time that 1Tb was the biggest harddisk to fit inside a mini, at least on a neat and proper way.
It can be found averywhere that 9,5mm it the maximum height of the drive.
There have been offers of 1,5 and 2,0Tb drives in 12,5mm or even 14mm heigth.
But now I found a 1.5TB drive in 9,5mm heigth!!.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/individualOptions.do?OPTION_ID=1136326&selCategory=1122762&oldCategory=1122762&service=EU&tab=1#1
If you do a search on PX1830E-1HK0 ,you'll find several offers in online stores.
In the rare case that specs are mentioned, they copy the specs from the Toshiba website.
But I don't trust it !I think Toshiba made a mistake on their website.
This will - ofcoarse - remain so until someone orders one and confirms.

I haven't heard of a 2.5" 1.5TB drive at the 9.5mm height, but I sort of doubt that Toshiba would make a mistake on their own website. Perhaps it's just a new drive coming to market. How did you hear about it? _________________ 2011 Mac mini with 8GB of RAM

I was just browsing for harddisks at the Toshiba site.
It seems this part# is for a retail box. |

| CES 2013 is next week, perhaps they'll be a slew of hardware announcements? Don't forget the hard drive manufacturers have only just got back to normal after last years flooding caused widespread disruption. |

meanwhile, I see now more offerings of 1.5Tb HD's in 9,5mm from Toshiba.
Some of them use the part number MQ01ABD150 (like pixmania in France)
Mediamarkt in Germany sells now the PX1830E-1HK0 for €109,-
Both mention the 9,5mm height
http://www.mediamarkt.de/mcs/product/TOSHIBA-PX1830E-1HK0-interne-Festplatte-2-5-Zoll-1-5-TB,48353,421053,476252.html
http://www.pixmania.be/be/nl/search/mq01abd150#amount-low=0,amount-min=0,amount-high=110,amount-max=110/sortFilter=0_0/display-list/
However ,in the USA I see sites offering the MQ01ABC150 as being 12,5 or 12,7mm heigh. It's one small letter difference! |

Good and Happy New Year Smithcraft.
I am going to hang out on this site more.
My wife retired last year.
She has being keeping me busy.
I have been playing around with the new 2012's but the aluminum case has cut down mods as has the t-bolt connection. I do like the idea of a 1.5tb hdd with a 500gb ssd setup as a killer fusion quad core mini.
I also got into some pc builds after 12 years of all mac. here is a link to killer small form pc builds.

Big fan of Scythe fans! I put three of their 120mm fans in a recent build and they are dead silent. They are the ones with the fluid dynamic bearings from Sony.
Anyways, glad to see you back around! |

I think it has to be a typo, too. Could be wrong. But I just put this one in my MacBook Pro: "1.5TB Toshiba Aquarius 5400RPM 12.5mm Slim SATA Notebook Drive with 8MB Data buffer."
Got it from OWC, and it was the smallest form factor I found. Not that someone else won't find one, or that Toshiba doesn't plan to build it.... _________________ Gayle

Well guys, I think it starts to look like Toshiba really has a 1.5Tb HDD in 9.5mm height. Checkout item 350706889956 on ebay.
Tille : 1.5Tb HDD for all Macbook/Macbook pro/mac mini.
further auction details reveal the brand name Toshiba and the 9,5mm form factor, but no Toshiba part#.
Pixmania (BE) has them on sale now for 99€ -part # MQ01ABD150 |
