Ugh, only I could screw up putting in RAM in the simple Mini. I put two 8 GB Crucial in. THen after using it awhile I checked 'About this Mac; and it said 8gb RAM.
Seems like when I put the Bay 1 stick in, it just seemed to lay there, it didn't slide in much or snap in. Is it supposed to?
I tried it 2 or 3 more times, same result. Seems like it should slide into the contact area a little but it doesn't. I then tried the orig 2GB stick in and it says bay 1 is still empty.
I thought the stick would snap in slightly. mine just lays in and locks.
Oh yea, then I broke off one of the clasp arms. great.
I'm not a total klutz, I mean I have updated HDD and RAM in older, harder Minis.
I wish I had checked the RAM reading before I put the new ram in, but I didn't.
I guess I can run on 8gb, but damn.
anyone?

That's not good at all cause the RAM will never seat properly now. Which might have been the issue all along. You might be able to get a replacement under warranty though. Say the part was usually weak and brittle. I did this once with a MacBook and they fixed it. I actually think RAM in some models is considered to be a user serviceable part. I know it's stated on page 67 of the 2011 Mac mini.

It depends on the Ram manufacturer with their warranty policy.
