I have a new (mid 2011) mini and it has been unresponsive since new. When I bootcamp into Windows, it's speedy and normal.

I get constant pinwheels while browsing, and running other programs.

I did the 10.8 upgrade hoping it would help, but it didn't.

Any suggestions as to where I could look to find the problem?

thanks!!

How much RAM do you have installed. It seems to me that Windows seems zippier with lower RAM needs than OS X. Hopefully minimum of 4 GB is what you have.

It could be that you need more RAM and/or have bad RAM. Like ez061111 stated, you really need more than 4GB these days. You should also consider doing a clean install of Mountain Lion. I mean, if that wasn't the method of your upgrade. You might also try repairing your disk permissions and clearing your caches. There's still a chance you have some crud from Lion. Stuff that was slowing you down in the first place.

Well I have 2 GB of RAM.....

Do you guys really think it is a RAM issue? My previous Mini (core duo) with 2GB was much more responsive.

I'll check and see about upgrading the RAM.

Honestly, you really can't run Mountain Lion with 2GB of RAM. I know it meets the minimum system requirements, but it's not going to run very well with a couple apps open. Even basic apps like mail and your browser. I would even skip over 4GB and go towards 8GB with a 2011 Mac mini.

I have an iMac with 4GB and a Mini with 2GB, speed difference and lagging is huge between the two. Upgrading the older mini isn't as easy but if I'm going to keep it I'll have to as the 2GB is driving me crazy.
