Hi Ray , I'm sorry to hear of your problems.
My transsition to ML from Lion went smoothly,
to smoothly. Everything has been relatively
smooth till my problems with Safari crashing.
Mail has been stable. Actually its been quite
good. Mail figured out how to automatically
add an old eMail acount I haden't used in
years. No new eMail from it though.

I didn't know what Messages was. Had to
launch it to find out. May I ask, how do YOU
use it? Is it what has replaced iChat, or
whatever Apple called their App. that would
activate a Web Cam.

Thanks!

I use message to keep in touch with family constantly. I text them all the time they all have apple devices but a couple so it's very nice. I have no need for a cell phone now. I know caveman LOL. My transition seemed extremely smooth actually in the beginning I almost couldn't believe it, and I had no issues what so ever. Every app worked except I had to download java or something I can't remember. Then out of the blue things just started acting weird. It ran real smooth for awhile too. I don't know if my cpu is running hotter now or what. I may have to keep an eye on it. My machine barely made the cut so maybe it's a 64 bit thing. I think everything is running 64 still not sure that is the reason. I heard of others having mail issues as well. It's real fast to open just when I click on an email it has some lag to open the message. Its opening the messages where the problem is. Iphoto is in serious need of an overhaul but that really isn't the OS. I hope my monitor isn't the cause of some of my issues. It's one of them older cinema displays aluminum type.

It could be a graphics issue when my computer screen froze earlier tonight I seen some "cracked" and shifted images. I was burning a cd and a cd just got stuck in my mini I had to reboot to get it out. I couldn't with a restart. I had to turn it off before I heard it grinding and detecting it. Those are just some of the things I remember. I am pretty sure I ran across some other things. We shall see what the updates bring for my older machine. I am actually getting used to glitches and eventually work my way around them using Lion for so long. I just remember the SL days which seemed short lived but it was shortly before that I moved to a Mac from a Pc, and that OS seemed like total bliss back then. Smile

Thanks, I here ya'. My favorite Mac OS
was Tiger. Everything just worked. Intel,
Power PC, didn't matter. I guess thats why
it worked. It HAD TO or SJ would have
had egg on his face. These newer OS's
are about pushing the envelope with
contact features for the kids. I mean
they are the future, Ignore them at
your peril.

I could live without all of these newer
features. I'm begining to sound like my
dad....geeze

Bill I hear you loud and clear and completely agree. I became so dependent on messages though. I would be back to SL in a heartbeat and still might. Now I got new wireless issue with itunes. I had one with Lion after it woke from sleep. Now out of the blue it just cuts out and then back on again and does this often. Never even had this problem before. Its possibly a "playlist" bug, because it was during playback on a list. I may look into older Mac's and OS"s and stock up on them for the future. LOL

Ray, I started laughing when I read this. Then
I looked over at my unloved and little used PPC
iMac with its chrome neck and half round base.
When any of my new state of the art Mac's stop
working I just fire up old reliable, yes the PPC
iMac and surf Al Gore's inter-webs trying to figure
out how to massage the new Mac into working.

Your words couldn't be more true.

I prefer Snow Leopard, and I keep it on my Mac mini.

I have ML on the iMac to keep up with things. Apple is sticking it's neck out with Lion/ML but eventually they will get all the kinks worked out and everything else will seem archaic. Once Apple gets everything worked out then other will try to be like Apple. As many are already trying to do. In the meantime Apple will be well ahead working on the next new thing.

I just deal with it and accept this as a transition phase.

The only people I feel sorry for are businesses that still need machines with SL to support Rosetta, software not supported by Lion/ML etc. With the new hardware there is no going back, so they are forced to buy used hardware or find work arounds.

I have clients that are desperately looking for newer machines with Snow Leopard. Whenever I get one, it's sold immediately due to the high demand.

I decided to update my work machine, the reality is that 2GB isn't enough so I know I need to upgrade it but its the older style MM so it's not easy to do and since it's a work machine I won't be doing it myself. Even though my iMac at home is a bit older it's much smoother with ML and 4GB. I've had no problems on either, except that the work machine is mostly slower when running multiple applications. I'm sure some of it is related to running an IM program that uses Java too.

One of the reasons I updated both machines was for the Messages app, call me old school but typing a long message on my iphone is a PITA and Siri still gets enough wrong that it's not worth it, so being able to use my keyboard is just what I needed.

A couple days in now and I'm really impressed with the improvements for iCloud. Especially with the new file and document syncing in iWork. I also like how you can change file names at the top of windows now. That's pretty handy!

I am really missing the RSS button in Safari. I seriously hope they bring it back in the next update.
