Junk mail

Hi, How do you set a message as junk mail if it's labeled as "Mail thinks this message is junk mail" by Mail? Actions I see I can take are either "load images" or "not junk", which won't set the message as junk. The only thing I can do is delete the message and ... see the same thing next time when similar or same message arrives. How funny Mail tells you it's junk, but don't let you agree/confer?

there is a way to setup mail to block junk mail..

However its like taking a bomb to your e-mail application and is still not good

My office account gets a lot of junk. Some of it Mail was catching some wasn't. First and best step was using the spam filer with my host.

I played with all sorts of settings, still my inbox kept getting hit and they didn't get moved to my spam folder. Then I came across a tip that has really helped, cut down on 95% of the junk mail that didn't get in my spam folder.

I have found an application that gets good reviews, I'll post the link from work.

The real problem for me is that until the iPHone deals with spam my problem isn't totally solved.

To follow up, if you want an add-on to deal with your Spam I'd look at SpamSieve - I've talked to some other business users that have used it and like it. It's about the only anti-spam program that has been updated and stays updated. Reviews on MacUpdate are favorable for the most part.

there you go image spam just the item i was talking about but you have to check your junk mail folder because it also moves non junk items to the junk bin

I was really concerned about false-positive emails being dumped but so far its pretty good, since it checks your address book and sent list it learnes ok. I stil scan it to pull the good ones but very few of those. But i would agree, there is plenty of room for improvement.

You know, I haven't messed around with Mail for a long time. I've actually been using Thunderbird for the last couple years. Now, I've upgraded to ML and want to give it another look-see. Where are the rules to block specific words and stuff in the Subject line? Say I want to block the word Viagra. I just can't remember.

The problem is that the Spammers will intentionally misspell words so that list ends up being huge trying to catch them all. I gave up on word filters myself. Between my host, and the few rules I have I catch 99% of the Spam in my box now.

I've opted to use the filters to move most my mail to folders, thus leaving my Inbox pretty empty - makes it quick to scan to see what's left and often its not spam but various "newsletters" and advertising emails.

Cool, thanks! I totally forgot where that stuff was in Mail. And I have a pretty effective list of words, including misspellings, that keep the old bad stuff out of my inbox.

I'm also going to look into Spamsieve.
