A friend made a cash offer for my old MacBook Pro which was about to be left behind in the world of Mountain Lion (it was a 2006 C2D) and I jumped at his offer because it was a really good price. Now I am Macless (sigh) and felt a Macmini would be an outstanding replacement ,especially since I have a Samsung 24" monitor waiting to be used. So do I grab the 2011 Macmini refurbs for $519 or wait for a new model? On a side note I want to use the macMini for the following
- Objective-c coding
- Adobe CS6 stuff - mostly Dreamweaver, indesign - not too much Photoshop
- Podcast multitrack editing
Is the MacMini capable of all of this stuff? I have a home built PC with a Core2Duo which does all this and more so I imaging the MM will accomplish this with ease with the help of the i5 processor and maybe max the ram at 16gb of 1333
any advice or comments are truly welcome - thanks all |

The mac mini is fine on all these front's.
But honestly 519.00 for a refurbish when a new one is only 699.99 i woud just get a new one. |

Well when I said 'new model' I meant the possibility of a 2012 MacMini (TBD)
If I go for the 2011 model I would get a refurb since I never had an issue before and I don't mind saving a little cash.
Worth waiting on a New 2012 MM? Or Grab a 2011 model? |

I would check on the Craigslist or wait for the new one. Even better get one on the CL when the new comes just resell it and get the new one...

Excellent idea - it's funny - I bought an iPad 1 on CL for about $320 a few days before the iPad 2 was getting released and unloaded it for $400 2 months later when I decided I wanted the iPad 2 - people pay a lot for things..
I just did a buy it now on eBay MM i5 2.33ghz with 4 gb RAM for $485 shipped to the house....not a tremendous savings but it's something...taco bell money lol |

Save the $180 buy a refub MM now, who knows when/if they are going to refresh it.

The new models are bound to bring in Ivy Bridge and USB 3.0, but I wouldn't wait around seeing that the current models are more than capable or running Mountain Lion. I mean, if you really need a new computer. Plus, who really knows what the future holds? Apple could leave the Mac mini in it's current state for another year. Just look at the history of Mac mini updates and what they've done with the Mac Pro over the last couple years.

You are right who can tell when Apple does a refresh of the new model? It could be dropped also.Incidentally I use to live in Bellmore NY near you. |
