According to the release notes, this update adds support for Mountain Lion and compliance with GateKeeper. Very nice to see.
I've been bouncing back and forth between CCC and SuperDuper for years! Usually based on the first to release a copy compatible with the new OS.
Hopefully this version of CCC has a simple interface for making a bootable clone. The previous version was very feature rich, but I found it a bit confusing. |

It doesn't look like CCC is free anymore. |

I appreciated that they seemed up front about why they went commercial and in fact makes me feel a bit better about using a program like this. I've seen to many shareware programs fold or cease development, now I'm deciding if I want to jump to ML right now and use CCC or hold off a few weeks. Sale is good through August 12 on CCC though as I recall. _________________ iMac 24" 2.4 GHz 4GB | Logitech S530 | Z-2300 speakers | NewerTech Guardian MAXimus RAID

Time Machine isn't a bit for bit clone. It's not bootable. Unless you restrict the partition size, the back up grows and grows and grows until the hard drive is full.
Time machine has benefits, but so do bootable clones. I use both.
Bootable clones are also very nice for troubleshooting. You can boot from a known working state. If the issue is gone, you know you have a software issue.
If your boot drive is starting to fail, you can boot off of your clone drive until it is convenient to replace your boot drive.
There are lots of reasons for making bootable clones. imaging multiple machines etc. etc. etc. |
