When I watch streaming it seems a little out of sync and jolty if you know what I mean. Does upgrading to a 1 gig stick help this? Or am I better to find another HTPC setup? Thanks in advance for your help, Vbosch |
Buy something better. I have a 1.42GHz mini with 1GB of RAM and I find it pretty much unusable for full screen video. Even playback of 700MB .avi movies which are already on the hard drive are choppy to the point of being unbearable. It's like watching slow motion blocks moving around. I've tried a number of different video players with no success.
Get a core 2 duo machine as a minimum. Better yet get a new mini and 8GB of RAM. |

The most memory a G4 mini can address is 1 Gig.
Please don't recommend something that's impossible.
Input is good but only when its helpful.

Can someone re-up the files needed to flash the firmware? They are no longer on file-upload.net.
Thanks! |

Hi, I've upgraded the firmware.. Then the CPU and the memory..
This was a early 2006 core solo 1.5 but now a 2g c2d with 300g drive and 4g memory with only 3g showing. Putting a bit of life back into a 6yr old machine for next to nothing.
What I'm trying to find out is what os can I straight install now all this is done.
Would it be a retail copy of SL as I think you need a hack for lion to work.
Any help would be great...

Get that retail copy of SL now while you can!
Since I lost interest in 10.7 I haven't quite kept up to date with installation on hacked Macs. So it might install without the hack, or it might not.

Thanks for the info, my macmini is now a 2.1
Also fixes the issue with it not recognizing my aluminium keyboard on boot (previously had to get into bootcamp with the IR remote). |
