Apple Updates AirPort Express

Apple today updated their popular AirPort Express base station. The new device features a completely redesigned compact enclosure and new wireless and connectivity capabilities. Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi allows users to easily create a network that delivers optimal performance and range. The AirPort Express also features an audio-out port to connect external powered speakers or an A/V receiver and use AirPlay to wirelessly stream from iTunes on your Mac or iOS device. A USB 2.0 port allows you to share a printer wirelessly over your network, and an additional ethernet port lets you connect to other computers and network devices. The new AirPort Express is priced at $99.

I kinda liked the old style with the direct AC plug better. It helped reduce cable clutter. I think the addition of AirDisk would have been nice as well. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| I don't care as much for the new design either. Personally, I think you're probably better off going with the Apple TV for Airplay (if you don't need its router capabilities). Especially with mirroring support in Mountain Lion. |

Except the Apple TV does not have 3.5mm / 1/8" analog output.
This excludes a lot of devices capable of outputting audio. |

Most amps/receivers/TVs today have digital audio and HDMI, but that's a solid point if you're using older audio equipment or powered speakers. |
