| After reinstalling OS 10.6.8, How can I rename the startup disk? It is now showing Untitled. |

Single click the drive icon and press return. This will highlight the text box. Type your new name and press return again 
Never start a drive name with a dot. Use a letter. |

you just click on untitled and you can put whatever name you want...

I've been using his method
and it works fine in Lion.
