I have an early 2011, 13" Macbook Pro. This came with a 350 GB Hard Disk. I'm interesting to replace this with a 1TB Hard Disk. I hear from a Best Buy Technician that this HD must be one from Apple. Is this correct?

False but you cannot go to a 1 tb anyways.

Let me explain.

the 1 tb drives for laptops are thicker and wont fit into older laptops they are designed for newer laptops so you might be looking at a 500 gig to a 800 gig hard drive instead now this is what i would do go to.

Look in there guides on the 2011 macbook pro replacement hard drive instructions these step by step guides should show you if the hard drive is censor rigged or not this should also get you ready for what you are about to do

Albert, WD and Samsung (perhaps others) have 9.5mm (same form factor as the one currently in your MBP) 1TB drives that will work well; they've been around for almost a year at this point. Been around for a while now. Not the fastest but I've found the Samsung to be quite nice.

WD Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT

Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB

I've not used this particular WD drive, I have the older 12.5mm older version; heard the 9.5mm version above is zippier. My experience with Samsung has been favorable.

Thanks, I purchased an HD Scorpio 1T, installing it in the MBP and this works fine.

False, Samsung and Western Digital both make a 9.5mm height 2.5" drive, you just have to look for the height or Z-dimension spec and as long as it says 9.5mm it will be fine.

As far as speed, the newer 9.5mm should be, they use 2 platters instead of 3 and are 200 rpm faster meaning more speed over more density.
