Apple Store Say What ?

After going over my options on back up on my other post -- i thought i would go ahead and replace my 120 G HD with a 250-500 and up grade my memory.

I went to my local Apple Store in Salem NH and wanted to get a price on doing the swap -----------

You wont do it -----------!!!!! What ???

Yup the very nice girl said my Mini was too old -- and they didn't want to work on it .

It looks like this will be my last Apple product -- how in the world can they not stand behind a 5-6 year old computer that works fine.

It would be one thing if she said - it can't be done -- but they didn't even want to put in more memory-----

What if you bought a car and the dealer refused to work on it at 5 years old ?

I can think of several reasons to not buy a Mac.
Yours takes the cake....no, the Bakery.

If they brake it (which is possible) they would
have to replace it with a newer model at probably
no charge to you. An auto dealer doesn't hold itself
to the same standard. Many independent PC Repair
shops should have no problem doing it , though.

Any particular reason why you don't do it yourself?
Its not Rocket Science. I have severe arthritis in my
hands and don't find it very difficult.

The auto industry is completely different from the consumer electronics industry.

Most companies provide support for three to five years.

However, you say you have a 2.6 GHz mini(but I don't think the 2.6 GHz minis used 667 memory) so that should be still supported.

You can always check the Vintage and Obsolete list at Apple

i know next to nothing about computers - and i would rather pay a bit more and get it done right--

i just don't understand the logic behind getting a repeat buyer knowing they won't help you at some point --

i would understand if they said we will do it -- but not stand behind the work
it's not like it is an out of production unit

I can understand your frustration, Apple never met your expectations, but now you know how Apple service centers work. They are more interested in selling you a new machine rather than upgrading your old one.

Apple replaces Apple hardware with OEM replacement parts.

I work for an Apple Authorized reseller/service center. Apple often sends their clients to us for such service. Perhaps you should look for an Apple Authorized service center that offers such services. There are plenty out there.

I rather go an Apple Authorized reseller/service center, it is less a zoo with less afficionados who are in an Apple store just to be there. You do not wait too long in the noise.
Most of these centers have been here forever and deserve some support...
