No i can answer this did you install iOS 5.1.1

The reason i ask is iOS 5.1.1 plays with the charging issues with iPads as well as iPhones i had to restart my iPhone several times to get it to charge correctly because iOS screwed up charging

Yes, it is fully updated. There's no way to revert to a previous iOS, is there?

You aren't the only one. My version 1 iPad has had this problem for over a year.

Note to those who think it's a USB port problem: It is NOT. Read the guy's post more carefully. The problem is the dock no longer recognizes power or attachment to either a computer or to the power adapter. If you plug it straight into the wall, it does not charge. It is not the cable (tried about 5). It is not the power adapter (tried 3 of those). It is not the computer (tried 2 or 3).

It appears to be a mechanical problem inside the iPad itself. I was able to stretch out the life of my iPad 1 after trying everything, then deciding it was probably a mechanical problem. So I gave it a solid whack on the table and it started working again - for a while. I smacked it again when it stopped recognizing the dock, and again it worked for a few weeks.

Kept this up for a year, and over time harder and more smacks on the table were required. Finally, that stopped working so now I am back to where I was. The iPad still works just fine, only it takes about 4 or 5 days to charge to 100%. So about once a week I can use my iPad for a few hours.

I think it's actually a manufacturing defect. The only real way to solve this now (at least for me) is to buy another one, but at least the 3rd generation is out now, and I haven't seen this problem reported for either the iPad 2 or the new iPad.

It sounds like the dock connector is slightly unseated within the device.

not true the dock connector wouldn't be loose if the connector was loose he wouldn't be getting anywhere but he tried a external charger and it charges wont sync.

Glad to know I am not alone...misery loves company. Apple gave me a THIRD iPad. This one failed after three weeks. Different problem. The sleep/power button was faulty every ten to fifteen seconds it would go to slide to power off screen. So I am on my Fourth refurbished iPad. Losing faith in Apples refurbished quality control. Never had any issues with ipod touches. Maybe cause they were later generations.

Perhaps these iPads should be looked at by a tech.

Slamming your iPad against the table is hardly a fix, nor does it identify the source of the issue.

do you still have the warranty? if you can still use it then use it. it's a big help for times like this. they might even replace your ipad with a new one.

Unfortunately, I got my iPad when they first came out, I'm sure my warranty has expired...
