|
|
As you know their is a small hidden partition
on your Lion Boot Drive that contains tools
to help you Restore or rather Recover your
Lion OS.
If someone were to BORROW your Mac they
could easily reset your Password using this
handy Recovery Partition.
Simply restart your Mac holding down the
Command+R Keys (⌘+R). Release the keys
when the Gray Apple appears, your Mac will
now boot into your Recovery Partition.
First, select your Language then in your
Menu Bar go to Utilities➜Terminal. After
your Terminal opens type the command
(without quotes) "reset password" your
Resetpassword Utility will open. Use this
Utility to set whatever Password you like
or leave the New Password lines blank to
eliminate the need for a Password. Click
Save and Reboot. Your in!
If you were to erase your Hidden Recovery
Partition, anyone could Restore it buy using
Apples Internet Recovery Feature or buy
using a Thumb Drive with the Recovery
Tool on it.
Encrypting your entire Hard Drive would
eliminate this loophole or using a Firmware
Password should also work. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

| You can set a master password at the firmware level if you want. Then the only way someone could access your data would be to physically remove the drive and boot from another machine. |

Hi BB,
How would simply changing the Apple Hardware
make it possible to overcome or bypass a Password
set at the Firmware level enabling a boot into the OS?
Oh, I get it. Your not booting into the OS but looking
at its files more like a storage drive without an OS at
all........clever. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with
