I was looking through old pictures tonight and found one of me squatting in front of my first car. It was a brown two-door VW dasher. I hardly remember anything about the car, but I sure can remember having a couple good times in the hatch with the back seats down. |

My first car was rather ubiquitous for the area, so much so that one friend called me a copy cat. But it was my car, and easy to maintain. The worst thing about it wasn't the bondo rear quarter panel, but that over the years it had gone from it's original metallic golden color to sky blue.
It was a 1965 Ford Mustang coupe, with a six cylinder engine and a slush box transmission.
And yes, the cowls did leak!

Awesome guys!
The Datsun 510 was a great little car. The old Beetles and Mustangs rocked too. I'm not familiar with the Vauxhall Viva though. I'm off to Google it up! |

I had a rusted out 1971 Datsun 240Z. It was given to me. I never had it insured. I used to drive it up and down our long back alley uninsured. Our house backed onto a graveyard so the alley was about 5 blocks long.
The first car I had insured was a 1981 Mustang. Same paint job as the photo above.
Then I had a green 1969 Impala 2 door.
I remember measuring it at 18" and 1" long.
World's largest 2 door I think
Then I drove a 1988 police car (ghost car grey) up until 3 year ago (believe it of not).
This is my current summer car.
1980 Camaro RS (original paint etc.)
I now have a new Chevy Pick-up as I can't keep driving old vehicles forever
I've never owned or drove a front wheel drive vehicle for more than an hour or two. |

My second car was a retired 1989 CHP Mustang much like the '88 on this page - http://policecarwebsite.net/fc/capdcars/chp/chp80.html
It was still black and white, but the decals had been peeled off.
I loved that car!

Ah well, if we're going onto second cars, I had a 1971 Lotus Seven Series 4 (in Daytona yellow actually, like this):

Cool car mooblie.
Perhaps we can change the thread to cars you wish you never sold (or owned)!
BTW Devo, hows about posting the pic you mentioned in the start of the thread. Even if you have to take a pic of the photo with an iPhone. |

Don't have a picture handy at the moment.
First car was an '85 Toyota Supra - I saved up for three years for that car. Think it was jinxed though. Within the first year, it got hit by a cable car running a red light (yes, one of those cable cars that go up and down the hills of San Francisco). Dealing with a self-insured transportation agency that operates the world's only mobile National Monument legally considered to be a railway was not a fun process. After they paid out almost a year later, I got the car put back together. Soon after, I was hit again by another red light runner. This time, it was a doctor in a minivan without insurance - again another PITA to deal with. This totalled out both vehicles.
I then got a '95 Toyota 4Runner.
A few years later, I got a '02 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Both of these vehicles I still have and are fairly thirsty. So just after being laid off from work in 2010, I picked up a '03 Pontiac Vibe which I had the pleasure of helping build a few years before the factory was shut down. _________________ Mercury TiBook 400MHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB HD, Airport

My first car was a 1972 Karmann Ghia in dark green. I don't have a picture handy, but it looked like the one down below.
It was a decent car for $1200. I only had problems with the suspension boots and clutch. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

White 1991 Chevy S-10 similar to the one picture below:

I hated to part with. It had some issues that I couldn't justify spending the money on fixing. It made a nice donation to the Kidney Foundation who got $500.00 at auction. |
