Was anyone else impressed with the Vista demo at CES? I actually came away thinking it looked pretty good. I can't wait to get my new mini and setup a dual boot machine with OS X and Vista.

I'm glad that it will be possible, because it'll be a great solution for some people and will definitely attract new buyers for Apple hardware.

But having dealt with the vagaries of Microsoft operating systems for so long, I can't imagine installing Vista or XP on an Apple system I own.

I saw a short video on Cnet. The first three things that came to mind were Spotlight, Expose and Dashboard. I'm sure Vista is an improvement over XP, but I'm not interested in running it.

I honestly hope MS does not drop the ball again. At least they are not rushing Vista to market. MS knows if they screw up again, they will see even more people switch to OSX. I'm sure there are many Windows users out there praying that this OS will finally be "the one" so they don't have to switch.

As far as MS copying Apple. This is a good thing. Imitation is the best form of flattery. Just imagine what Apple will have to offer within 2 years.

But not only that, they are good ideas. Spotlight isn't really that big of an idea to steal, it's the natural evolution of the search technology of XP. You could argue who created this idea first, though Apple certainly came to market first with it.

Dashboard is an old idea, and it's useful. I think it just took Apple to show Microsoft that it's useful. Basically Microsoft just used Apple to do the beta testing on how people would like that feature. It's not worth developing if no one will use it.

Expose is pretty much stolen, though they have a different, equally interesting approach.

I've posted this earlier but it bears repetition: Microsoft first has to catch up to the competition before it can really surpass them in innovation. This applies to things beyond the Big Three that people love to talk about because they were Apple's big marketing push for Tiger.
