My Macmini is So slow!

This is what I have and it is one of the first Macmini's made. Lately it has gotten extremely slow... I bought a new MM in Nov but have not changed it over yet...I'm afraid that I may have some virus or something that I do not want to transfer to my new one. I haven't posted in a long time because every thing has been going great. I'm 74 and not the least Tech savy...good at cut and paste...but thats about all.

I started to download Spybot for Macs...but thought I'd better ask y'all first. Thanks for your time. Sunny

click once on your HD icon to select it,
then click cmd and the i key together (cmd+I).
This will bring up an information window where you can see your HD stats.
Alternatively you can do a control+click (right click) on the HD icon and select Get Info from the drop-down menu.

512 megs of ram key word there.

most people running tiger use a gig of ram and yes they do make 1 gig moduals for that model of mini.

have you checked your hard drive space yet

go into finder or just click on the desktop image on your desktop then from the menu select utilities and then run disk repair

Well....in my search I found that this is a Panther not Tiger....any way I finally found something...

Another thing that you might want to look at the the Activity Moniter.

It is an application in the Utilities folder and it can show you if any programs are hogging the computer. You would want to select the All Processes from the selection button, and then click on the %CPU column. If it is showing a column of 0.0 then click on the header again, to reverse the sort.

What you want to look for, is anything using a large percentage of the CPU.

As far as I'm aware, their isn't anything
in the wild thats nefarious written to run
on or infect a Mac with a PowerPC Processor
(PPC) which is what you have. So, don't waist
your time downloading Spy Detection Software.

When's the last time you Repaired Permissions?
If Disc Repair didn't work then "Repair Permissions".
Repairing Permissions on a PPC mini will likely take
a while. I would try Repairing Permissions several
times. Don't do it once and give up.

If your HD isn't almost full and you've Repaired
your Disc as well as Permissions and your not
doing anything differently, I suspect your HD
may be failing. Make sure your Info is backed up
just in case.
