|
|
Thinking my early 09 Mini might have some issues, so before the warranty runs out I decided to run the Apple Hardware Test. However the Applications Disk containing the Apple Hardware Test can't be mounted in the Mac Mini. Had to force power it off and hold down eject key on boot to get the DVD to eject.
Put it in my 07 MacBook and the DVD mounted first time. I was able to copy the AHT across the network and am now running it from my 09 Mac Mini.
Do you think I have a dead optical drive?
My AppleCare warranty runs out in a few weeks so I guess I should report this to Apple.
Any thoughts? _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Booked an appointment.
Would they still stock parts like this considering they haven't been selling Minis with internal optical drives for quite a while now? _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Oh well. I guess there'll just replace it then and that'll be it.
I think I have been starting to have some intermittent graphics issues but that kind of thing would be hard to reproduce. _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Took the Mac Mini to the Apple Store. By the sounds of things they don't see many of this model any more. One of the Genius guys nearby (not the one who was helping me) wondered if it was the Intel model or not (he has a PowerPC Mini and an Intel Mini). The Genius was quickly able to verify that the SuperDrives isn't working. Now the unit is awaiting repair.
Thanks for all the help guys. _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD

I believe a manufacturer is required to have parts for five years, so Apple should have drives, or access to replacement grade drives.

Well they said the repair time could vary depending on whether they had the optical drive in stock. If not they'd have to order it in. _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD

Yes that's what they said.
Find it a bit odd it's taking this long though when they replaced the defective keyboard in my MacBook back in 2010 within a few hours. My MacBook wasn't even covered by warranty then it was just that it was a known defect so they fixed it.
Edit: Just got the message that it's been fixed. Will pickup today/tomorrow. _________________ Laptop - 2007 Macbook 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM 500GB 7200RPM HDD
