problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500A All-in-One printer

I recently purchased a HP Officejet Pro 8500A All-in-One printer. The first night I was using in I was able to successfully scan from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) using the webscan feature in the printers built in web server. Starting the next night after doing a software update when the printer notified me of an available software update AND updating the drivers when my mac's Software Update Utility told me there were new drivers available for HP printers and scanners I can no longer scan using the webscan feature from the ADF. When I try scanning the document to PDF the unit will generate a blank PDF.

I am connecting to the 8500 via wired networking. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and HP software multiple times.

I can successfully scan using the webscan feature if I manually put something on the flatbed. I can successfully scan from my windows 7 laptop using the ADF and webscan. I can successfully scan from the ADF using HP Scan and Preview from the ADF and the Flatbed.

Based on the fact that my mac will scan from the flatbed and my win7 laptop scans perfectly I am lead to believe that there is a software/driver problem on my mac. the pain is that I am not sure what to do to correct the problem or if it can even be corrected.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Does anyone have any suggestions or advice that I can use to try and resolve the problem? I am posting here because I have read a lot of good advice on these boards.

There are two reasons this bugs me. 1) It was working and then stopped. 2) I like the ability to open Safari and just click one button to scan my documents to PDF as opposed to using the HP Scan or Preview.

I can still use the unit. I actually like it and would recommend it if asked.
