|
|
Hi All,
I have recently bought a Mini mac server edition and have installed it and have it connected my wireless home network.
I have a lot of music and movie files that are stored on my other windows pc and I want to copy these files onto my mini.
I have tried to copy over the wireless network but it is so slow it will take me forever.
I took the mini and connected it via cable to the airport extreme, hoping this would make it a lot faster for transfer, but the windows will not even display the device.
I have made the mini the same workgroup.....
Can anyone please assist me with this, I am very new to the mini and only want the device to run as a music and movie player and storage. |

I'm assuming you are moving from internal HD to internal HD. Obviously if you have an external and can transfer that will speed things up compared to a standard Ethernet transfer. Does your PC have a Gigabit Ethernet or standard 100? I transfer my media frequently between my iMac & Mini via my Apple Aiport and its all good quality cable so my Gigabit connection is pretty snappy. However none of our PCs have Gigabit cards.
You can also purchase a special Mac-PC USB cable.
Finally you can connect your Mac and PC Directly with an Ethernet cable, here are the steps from the Apple Support website:
Direct connect
To move files by connecting your Mac directly to your PC, if both have an Ethernet port:
Connect your Mac to your PC using a standard Ethernet cable.
Make sure that both computers are turned on.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using one of these formats:
smb://DNSname/ShareName
smb://IPaddress/ShareName
Click Connect.
Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your PC's workgroup name, user name, password, and the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear on your Mac Desktop.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, drag your PC volume to the Trash to unmount it.
