|
|
With adobe saying that 10.2 flash player doest support leopard is a lie and to say it doesn't support it on power pc is another lie.
Here is the tutorial to tell flash 10.2 to install.
Here is what you will need.
1. a power pc macintosh running mac os 10.5 leopard this also works on 10.4 but only 10.4 server unlimited license.
2. a copy of pacifist for mac (just search google for pacifist for mac)
3. the latest dmg of adobe flash player 10.2
here is how to install.
1. install pacifist in your applications folder's
2. mount the adobe flash player 10.2 disk image
3. right click the adobe flash player install file and select show package contents.
4. open the folder contents.
5. open the folder resources
6. and copy the adobe flash player.pkg to your desktop.
7. right click the flash player.pkg
8. select open with pacifist
9. select install in pacifist
10. once finished restart your computer and you are done.
Enjoy flash 10.2
i used this tutorial and even the developers version which you can download from adobes web site functions with this same tutorial. |

What this does:
this tricks web sites into thinking you have 10.2 while continuing to use the 10.1 plugin all the websites are doing is looking for this flash player plugin for 10.2 and then use 10.1 plugin still allowing youtube to function and all other sites to remain active. |

|
|
Hi macmanmacman, thank you for your tutorial.
Sometimes I can be a little slow. Ok, a lot slow!
Why do we need to install Adobe flash 10.2
which only runs on an intel mac, on our PPC Mac's?
I currently have 10.1 installed on my PPC and
it plays YouTube/Flash ok. Its my understanding
that 10.2 offloads some of the CPU processing to
the GPU. Is that going to benefit a PPC Mac?
Your forcing an Intel plugin to install on a PPC.
Man.......macmanmacman I'm totally lost. Could
you point me to an article that would explain it
a little clearer or could you illuminate it a little
more? THANKS. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

Sure i can...
youtube and other sites that use flash block older versions of flash player so when you go to watch a youtube video it will say you need to update your flash player to the current version..
all sites do this when running flash content what is worse is almost 99.9 percent of web pages use flash in some sort of capacity even if it is loading a ad or even a flash video or game.
There is a video i have used from some guy on youtube the guy is really a annoying little kid but found out something funny that you can use adobes own 10.1 installer to install 10.2 flash player on power pc by replacing a pkg file.
here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4gjkfZouOA
i have tried his method and it works without fail and it still contains powerpc code in the flash player to run because games like the game of life which is powerpc uses flash player which cannot be removed fully because if it was adobe would be getting sued by software developers |

"block older versions" might be a tad too strong of a statement.
For my own reasons, I still use Flash ver.8 and have no problems viewing youtube videos.
I do admit that there is a messge under the viewer suggesting I upgrade t the latest version for a better viewing experience.
But the suggestion is wrong, the latest version of flash on my cube runs youtube videos like a slideshow, 1 frame at a time, whereas version 8 runs them smoothly. |

Ok, I downloaded adobes 10.2 flash pkg
from their web site.I extracted the
(10.2) Flash Player Installer
from adobes 10.2 Flash pkg.
So far so good.
Now, where do you get a Flash 10.1 pkg to
slip the 10.2 Installer into? Adobe only offers
10.2 as a download option.
MacUpdate and various other download sites
only offer 10.2 not 10.1. Macman, where did
you get 10.1? Without 10.1 I'm at a dead end. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

If you are following the instructions above all you need do is run Pacifist and drag the 10.2 pkg to it, from there you select install to original location.
No need to locate the 10.1 pkg, at least the way I read it. |

Hi jb. I've used pacifist a few times
in the past and my few experiences
weren't positive ones so I would
prefer to install the 10.2 Adobe Flash
Player pkg. manually.
My hope is someone will link me
too the 10.1 pkg.
I'm clearly missing something though.
I already have 10.1 installed. I'm guessing
their is a 10.1 pkg. some wear on my Mac
and could probably replace that pkg. with
the 10.2 pkg........or not. Not sure.
I've commented on the YouTube video
site for the 10.2 hack. Maybe he'll link
me to a 10.1 pkg. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

billb...
Funny isn't it? I use Pacifist all the time, it's really good for say, when I want to downgrade my Safari version for whatever reason.
Just grab the earlier version from Old Mac Apps http://mac.oldapps.com/ and use Pacifist to install it to default location, works like a charm for me.
I also use it regularly for cherry picking files out of OSX combo update packages when I'm trouble shooting whatever. |

Thanks jb, thats a great link.
The problem is, I can only find the
older Windows version.
I enter what I want in the search
box and no matter how I word my
search it always ends up at Flash
for Windows. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with

billb, I just downloaded the ver 10 from here on speculation, http://mac.oldapps.com/flash_player.php, and it does contain the mac version in a .dmg file along with windows, linux and solarix versions.
It's not version 10.1 but we are getting closer.
edit...
I just read the included readme file (duh!, RTFM)
And there is a version 10.1 for mac included. |

I am going nuts here! A couple of weeks ago flash stopped working. Kept getting update to latest version when i try to watch a video. Finally, i installed the right version and all was well. Yesterday, it happened again and repeated efforts to install 10.1 flash player has failed. Even correcting permissions before, and even tried before and after installation before restarting but nothing worked. I did uninstall before also.
I tried the macmanmacman instructions of installing 10.2 flash player with Pacifist several times and it didn't work. What am i doing wrong here? I am a long time Mac user and i am generally pretty good at solving a problem but, this one has me totally frustrated! Some help would be appreciated, Thanks.
p.s. recently i installed ilife9. Could that have something to do with it?

O.K., I managed to follow all these steps, but at the very start, adobe wants me to choose the system I have, and if I choose mac osx 10.4 - 10.5, I can only download flashplayer 10.3 and then at point 10 of your advice, I cannot go on because it says, that flashplayer 10.2 is not compatible on PPC...
What can I do??

7. right click the flash player.pkg
8. select open with pacifist
9. select install in pacifist
10. once finished restart your computer and you are done.
Enjoy flash 10.2
i used this tutorial and even the developers version which you can download from adobes web site functions with this same tutorial. |
