Hello. Forgive me if this is posted elsewhere but I could not find out exactly what I need to know. I have the late 2009 model of the mac mini. 2.26 core 2 duo. I installed 4gb ram.

What I would like to do:
1 Remove dvd drive
2 Replace dvd drive with a Seagate Momentus 500gb hybrid so that I end up with 2 drives inside the mini - the old 160gb and the new Momentus
3 Have my mini boot from the Momentus not the 160gb internal drive without physically swapping the drives

Is this possible and if so how. Also will 2 internal hard drives cause too much heat?

Link for Momentus I intend to buy:

Many thanks for any help. Peter

I'd also like to know about the options for this update. Not the spam from vivian.

Yes to everything, its possible except it won't get to hot.

I don't have time to explain how right now. Its not that difficult.
If others don't help you out, I'll check back latter. Sorry!

I would suggest:

0 Put 8GB RAM in it (2 x 4GB)! It's so cheap these days!
1 Yes
2 Use a caddy like this to mount an HD/hybrid in the optical space
3 After you've installed/cloned a system onto the new drive, just select the drive you want to startup from SysPrefs: Startup Disk
4 While it's open, clean out the air vents, fan and heatsinks, in case it gets too hot!
5 Have a look at whether/if you've got the latest firmware updates...

Awesome, thanks for the input... I have a little project I'm going to building with a G4 Cube shell I picked in Akihabara for $20! Should be sweet! Wink
