Has anyone tried the new Samsung 2.5" 1TB 5400 rpm in a laptop yet? I'm looking at upgrading to one and then replacing the hard drive in my desktop with it. I'm mostly looking to turn my desktop into a server or get it set up for a programming set up and making my MacBook Pro dual boot so I can have it for gaming and "development" (I can get it free through MSDN thanks to my major). Anyway the hard drive would be replacing a 7200 rpm 500GB and I was mostly wondering how the benchmarks compare.

| First off nice idea but if you plan on it being in a laptop bad news it's thicker and will only fit in certain laptops at the moment. |

Not the Samsung, the older Western Digital and Toshiba are 3 platter and 12.5mm, the Samsung is 2 platter and only 9.5mm or "standard" laptop drive height, as is the newer WD drive, but that is $45 more than the Samsung for the same specs. That's why I've not tried this sooner.

| Anyone tried this yet? I'm afraid there might be some BIOS stupidity on my MB139ll/a that will prevent this drive from working, even though it should. Right? |
