Apple today released the iTunes 10.5 Update with support for iCloud and iOS 5 via their Software Update Utility and website for direct download. According to the company, this update provides a number of improvements, including:
- iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.
- Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.
- Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
- Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
- Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they're both on the same Wi-Fi network.
The iTunes 10.5 Update weighs in at 102.51MB and requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

Cool stuff.
I wasn't aware that for auto sync, the devices needed to be on the same wireless network. So basically you are going to always have to run back to your wifi network, before the syncing takes place.
I thought it would work wherever there was wifi.
So if I make a purchase on my comptuter with iTunes and my iPad/iPhone are in the car or iPod in locker at the gym, I have to bring them home to update the new purchases.
Am I missing something?

I thought we already had this. Unless this automatically downloads everything to all our devices at once. I will have to give it a try. I can't help you out Bandit. All my stuff is at home on one wifi network.
I just tried it and I guess I have to wait till iOS5 it's not working yet. I only have an iPad to test it. Nothing showed up when I downloaded a song.
Ok one more time. It works I had to go into preferences in iTunes and set it in the store section to automatic downloads. Then on my iPad I had to go to settings then store and set it to receive downloads. Now it does work on a purchased song. It automatically downloaded. I didn't see any indication it was downloading it just popped up. Anyways cool. |

Sometimes stuff goes bye bye because of changes in licensing terms with the content providers or artists. It doesn't seem to happen very often though.
I can't wait to get my hands on iOS 5 tomorrow. You have to think that 10.7.2 will be coming out too, right? _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

| I really like it for apps just downloaded Contre Jour ( worth it!). Sometimes I am at my computer and want to download something I see and forget about it when I am on my iPad. Now it just automatically downloads to my iPad. I gave up on syncing a long time ago just when a new iOS upgrade would come out I would modify things a bit. Can't wait till we no longer need the home button for most things. I never liked that. Gestures will be so much better. |

I don't fault you for that one. I'm not a big buyer of stuff through iTunes or Amazon either. That being said, you should always back your stuff up to avoid losing it. Stuff bought and stuff ripped, even though you may have a hard copy. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

You can still back up your digitally distributed content to hard media..
I'm not try to convert you... Just saying. I know there are a lot of people out there that hate digital downloads. |
