|
|
I have a late 2006 core duo mac mini that was upgraded toe core2duo and has lion installed.
I installed Microsoft office 2011 on my lion core2duo macbook but I when I tried to install on my upgraded mac mini, it says it cannot install on this disk and need 10.5.8 or later.
Once I get Lion installed, will this be an issue for every 64 bit software I try to install?
Is there a way to fool the system?
Thanks. _________________ 20" iMac 2.16 GHZ

You should have no issue installing Office 2011 on a C2D with Lion.
I'm not sure what the issue is.
Office 2008 will not install with Lion. The installer is PPC. However if you do a data migration from an older system to a system running Lion. Office 2008 will run. It's just the installer that is PPC. |

Has anyone here successfully installed Office 2011 on a core duo upgraded to C2D? _________________ 20" iMac 2.16 GHZ

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I just thought I'd mention that Office 2011 for Mac is a 32 bit application. So your issue isn't due to 64 bit software.
Office 2011 for Mac will run on any Intel based Mac with OS X 10.5.8 or better with 1GB RAM.
Hopefully you get an answer to your question. |

Just tried it on a relatively fresh Lion install and it worked fine. A 1.5 Core Solo upgraded to a 2.0 C2D.
Also - You sound a bit confused. What OS do you currently have loaded on your mini? |

Bandit Bill, not to hijack this mans thread, I have a question. I have 2 mini's 2010, 2011, the 2010 has Microsoft Office 2008 and I did the latest update and it works fine, I put it on the 2011 by using Target Disk mode and it works and has the registration number {I have 3 student addition} however it will not let me check for updates and says to uninstall it and reinstall. Will I have to settle for this, and keep using Target Disk mode to bring over the updates?
I do have a Apple portable disk drive but it was stated that the installer is PPC and will not install. I tried it, will not install. I should just be happy with this for now.

Tom, the updates for Office 2008 on a Mac running Lion, is an issue I hadn't yet heard of. I'll ask about that at work today.
Sorry OP. I know it's a bit off topic. The bright side is the more this thread get recycled, the better chance you will have getting your original question answered. |

Macman and Bandit Bill, yes I am running a legit copy of Microsoft Student Teacher 2008 Mac Office, it comes with 3 numbers to use.
Later I will hook up the 2 minis again and try it, before Target Disk Mode I updated Office 2008 so it has the latest updates.
I did read on the Microsoft website they are working with Apple to try to get the bugs out for 2008 and 2011. 2008 works fine for me and I don't really want to spend a hundred for the latest as I have Apple Works. I just use it for letters and opening up things from my Marine Buddies.

Tom,
Apparently the URL that Office 2008 points to for updates once installed in Lion needs to be modified to point at the URL that it used to point to while installed in SL. Either you needs to change the URL or you need to do the updates on a SL machine then transfer.
Either way this is a huge pain in the butt. At least it's just Office which you can probably live with the latest version. Likely there won't be many more updates to Office 2008. |

Absolutely right, I should have looked it up. Unfortunately whenever I try to install, it says it cannot install and needs 10.5.8 or later even though I am running Lion. _________________ 20" iMac 2.16 GHZ

It's quite strange that it isn't working. It should have worked on your machine before you upgraded the processor as long as the OS supported it.
Why it's not working now is beyond me.
Do you have a way of installing 10.5.8 or 10.6.8 on your system. It might have something to due with the combination of your hardware and Lion that are causing the issue.
Knowing that your hardware is capable of running Office would be the first step. After you know it works, then upgrade to Lion again, then you know Lion is the issue. Perhaps an update to 10.7.2 with resolve the issue. |
