Well, it looks like the another famous musician kicked the bucket at age 27 today. That being being Amy Winehouse. Other famous musician kicking the bucket at age 27 include...
Kurt Cobain
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Jim Morrison
Brian Jones
Robert Johnson
Kind of strange no? |

Not really.
Cobain was lucky he made it that far.
Joplin was a product of the era and had plenty of issues with substances.
Jimi Hendrix - Ever see the record cover Mobeius did?
Jim Morrison, same as Joplin and Hendrix. Lucky he didn't fall of the stage and kill himself.
Brian Jones. Can't say.
Robert Johnson. That contract came due!

Yeah, he probably should've had his lawyer look at it down at the crossroads and change the wording to at least 28. |

A friend of mine co-wrote and illustrated a book about this phenomenon.

It's sad when anyone dies young of D&A addictions and mental problems. She admitted she'd been diagnosed with manic depression (bipolar) but didn't want to take the meds. sad, she was a gifted singer/songwriter.
Fame and wealth (success?) added to severe addiction, and mental issues is a scary combo. sad to see it play out. even harder to see addiction and it's effects in people you know. we still treat it like an impulse and not a disease. Some fight disease better than others. |

Cool! I was looking at the club.net website last night, but didn't reply back.
Totally agree gigaguy. I do think she needed more aggressive people around her though. That was really the downfall of my brother-in-law who passed away in part from addiction. I kind of failed him in the same way. It's something that will haunt me for the rest of my life. |

well, you can't fix others problems. only show support and love, IMO. It's heartbreaking and hard not to blame self tho.
Part of AW's appeal was the vulnerability and rebellion. I read she was actually very shy and mostly dreamed of getting married etc. Story is the guy she was dating left her (can't blame him) and her depression/demons took over. Neighbors heard her wailing the night before. sad she couldn't reach out to others rather than to her addictions.
I see her like Billie Holiday. Gifted but tortured. An impressive voice that will not be rivaled in a long time imo. Edele is good technically, but no where near the soul of Amy. |
