Mac OS X Lion Launching Tomorrow
Tuesday, July 19, 2011
Posted by: Staff

Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer just announced, during the company's third-quarter conference call, that Mac OS X Lion will be launching tomorrow on the Mac App Store. This news comes after weeks of speculation on the exact launch date. Now, what about those rumored MacBook Airs and Mac minis? I guess we'll all find out in the morning!

Call me old school, but I wish it was coming on a DVD. I'll probably wait a week or two before upgrading too. You guys can test it out for me. Smile

I don't see any real reason to update and pay $30.

I'll update right away. I'll have a bootable backup of Snow Leopard, so I see no need to wait. I need to learn the new OS for my job. As far as a disk is concerned, I see no need. I'll burn one.

I'm not sure if you guys read this yet, but you can do an internet restore by pressing command R. It will then download the latest version of Lion on your system. To me this seems like a great way to go. Why install on old version of the OS, then update. I'd rather have a fresh install of an up to date OS if needed. This is awesome. Way less of a chance of a conflict. If your hardware originally came with Snow Leopard or earlier, confirmation of the earlier OS is likely all you will need.

adv2k169 if you have any iOS devices iOS 5 and Lion go hand in hand. I think Lion is going to be a great update. I'm really looking forward to it.

I agree. My only concern is that if a restore is needed, it'll be a longer install process - install Leopard, install all software updates, and finally download/install Lion.

I hope they include a way of downloading it from the App store and burning it unto a DVD in case anyone wants a clean install.

Update: Looks like Bandit Bill and I originally posted the same time - and he addresses my concern. Thanks Bandit Bill!!

I want it. You guys know if I will have any troubles? I modded my desktop pretty good. I got rid of the dock and changed all my icons. I also changed the indicator lights. Pretty much all manually. I don't remember half the stuff I did I was on a binge. I like the look though but I hope it don't mess with the Lion download.

I think Lion in a more compelling upgrade than Snow Leopard. It definitely has a better feature set at release. I just hope it turns out to be as stable. Snow Leopard was by far the quickest and most stable release of OS X ever in my book. It treated me quite well.
