Going to get into the 21st century and install a router.
What I have been told is I should get a Linkseys WRT54GL as opposed to an N router. Reason being that most of the equipment I want to hook up is five years old or older. My MM is a 2009 but I have a Blue Ray player that is four years old, two replay TV's that are ten and eight years old and a Windows Laptop running XP that is ten years old. I have been told the the WRT54GL is old school but is very stable and would be sure to work with the older equipment.
If anyone can verify this or suggest another router that would serve my needs please let me know. |

your gear is very well rated and costs 50 bucks a very nice price. if you add new gear you may need to hard wire it. because it has no n wireless band. _________________ 2010 Mm 2.4 C2D oem 320gb hdd 8gb ram

You can easily find some stable 802.11n routers, no point in getting the WRT54GL unless you are on a budget of $50 or are wanting to go use it for high traffic which might require third party firmware. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

I would get the Apple Airport Extreme router (or Time Capsule if you prefer).
"AirPort Extreme operates in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands simultaneously and offers incredible performance and range for all your Wi-Fi devices."
This way if you get a new computer down the road, your older hardware won't cripple your network. You new machine will run at "N" speeds, while your old will run at "B", "G" or whatever. |

| Thanks for all your input, gives me something to think about, would like to go Apple but it's a little pricey for me at this time but maybe a refurb from Apple may be the way to go. |

I use this one at home and cannot speak highly enough about it.

The only downside to Airport is inability to manage them with Linux and I often only have Linux running on all systems on my network (including my MacBook Pro) and may need to go tweak port forwarding, aside from that for ease of use and reliability the AirPort Extreme bases seem hard to beat if you'll never need to manage it form a Linux system. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."
