Is anyone here into kayaking or canoeing? I just bought a used 12' Old Town Dirigo Kayak and will be heading out this weekend with a friend. Just wondered if you had any tips for a beginner. Smile

I'm a canoeist, and I don't know how different the gear is for the two. Assuming you will get wet, make sure to bring waterproof stuff sacks for your gear; the real waterproof sacks, not just garbage bags or anything like that. Depending on how cold the water is, you might want to wear either sandals with good bottoms and toe protection (not cold water) or neoprene booties. I wear the latter for spring canoeing.

Enjoy your trip, devo! Smile

Actually, he'll have to fall in if he wants to learn or practice the Eskimo roll.

Is that like an Eskimo pie? If it is, I just might have to get myself a canoe.

I think this advice is coming in too late, but one of the best little things you can buy or should have is a paddle leash. This way you don't end up shit creek without a paddle.
