Apple is now offering unlocked iPhone 4 in 16GB for $650, and 32GB for $750.
Take your micro-SIM and rock!

Is this new to the U.S.?
Apple Canada retail stores have been selling unlocked iPhones for a long time.
I'm glad to see it taking place. I'd love to see cheaper versions. |

Yes it is.
I thought Apple was only selling unlocked iPhones in Germany.

I was surprised to find out it was happening in Canada. I guess it's one of those things that Apple isn't very vocal about, as to not cause disturbances in their relationships with carriers. |

I decided I need to change my cellphone, since my 3 years old HTC Wizard will reach the end of its life soon.
The iPhone is pretty expensive in here, even with a Contract (it cost nearly $645 and you have to sign a 2 years $50 monthly contract).
The problem is that a new really dumb law prohibits the import of high-end cellphones that have no part made on Argentinian Ground. Other manufacturers build or assemble parts of the phone in here (like the charger or some cables/docking stations), and they get to sell phones in here. But Apple wont.
As a result, I can't even get the iPhone at full price.
Since I will be travelling to US in the recent future, and I will be near the canadian border, I wonder if the Canadian Apple Store will sell the new iPhone (the one that will follow iPhone 4) unlocked.
I will not buy an iPhone 4 right now. I hope my HTC will work enough until Apple realeases a new iPhone. |
