It cost about 1000 to build it. you could build one now for about 900.

some other parts are needed but you get to sell the oem hdd and the oem ram. so you can build one for about 900

This is used no warranty. so less then 900 is an obvious truth. I was wondering how much less.

Are the drives in raid config?
How fast is it in terms of real computing power?

No I did not set them up as a raid. two separate 3tb hdds. At this point in time no mac mini is truly fast. What this allows is basically 6tb of osx/storage If i clone from hdd one to hdd two it does it at 110mb vs 75mb for fw800.

A while back I had this run 12tb I used 4 western digital 3tb drives in two of these enclosures

I ran each enclosure as a raid0 this was a fast setup. very few enclosures work like this one. I also ran it with two of these enclosures

two of these with your own drive would be the way to go. they would stack use two intel 80gb or 160 gb ssd's in one case and use a pair of 750gb scorpio blacks in another case. If you want to buy the unit with no drives and try other cases let me know. I also have some xbench scores for the mini i will look them up.
