|
|
Hi new to the forum but I had a Mac mini sitting on the shelf and thought why not upgrade and get some use out of it.
I put in a WD caviar black 7200 rpm 750 gb hd
Upgraded ram to 2x 2 gb Kingston cards
And a intel t7200 CPU.
After I swapped out my parts for the new one reassembled the computer I am only getting hd and fan spin. I can only get the USB to power an external hd not a mouse or keyboard. When I plug in a monitor it is also not giving out any picture.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

First question, did the mini work before you did the upgrades? Second question: what model mini did you start with?
Because you upgraded three parts at once, any one of them could have been problematic, so if it worked before, you could try replacing one part at a time and see if it works with any individual upgrade.
However, the problem could be as simple as your not having a working operating system. Can you tried booting from a MacOSX DVD? Does the monitor at least light up? _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

It is a 2004 Mac mini. Started with a intel 1.66 duo CPU.
The hard drive is spinning. I tried both the new CPU and old same issue.
It did work prior to the upgrades to my knowledge.
Nothing on the monitor comes up with no signal.
I have a Mac book pro osx install disk in the super drive which I can't get out. |

that machine can't handle all that ram. put in a pair of 1gb sticks and it will work. also it is a 2006 mini if it started with an intel core duo 1.66..
the core duo 1.66 maxes at 2gb ram. I am not sure if you could use 1 2gb stick. i do know a pair of 1gb sticks will work. I owned that model a while back.
read the wiki link

I can tell you the motherboard is the boss of ram not the cpu your limit is 2gb.

The CPU isn't going to be a problem.

Thanks guys got everything up and running might want to make it a little faster. What is the highest cpu that would work with this computer?
Thanks for the help.
Also looking to run dual monitors off this older mac mini is this possible. I currently have a splitter on it but it will only run the same picture on two screens. |

The 2.33 GHz T7600(with pins/PGA) would be the fastest.
For dual monitors you would need a USB monitor adapter.
