I have a 2008 Mac mini that I want to turn into a htpc. I have a dvi to hdmi for video but for audio I unsure of which cable i should use. My samsung tv does have optical. Would stereo to optical be the right chose? What do other use for theirs?

I would venture to guess that the optical connection on the Samsung is out only. You would want to run TOSLink to a receiver.
Otherwise to connect from the mini to the Samsung you would want stereo mini to whatever you would need to connect to the Samsung.

It would be nice if displays had an optical passthrough, but every display I've read the docs for, the optical is out only.
Could be different with Benchmob31's display, but I would doubt that.
