Hi,

I have looked for a topic on this subject but was unable to find an answer to my specific question

Can I upgrade a Macmini2,1 with a 1TB 2.5" SATA HD?

Thanks for your help guys. Loving using the mini as a media server!

Depends on the physical thickness of the drive. I believe only 9.5mm drives (and NOT 12.5mm drives) will fit. That drive is PROBABLY 12.5mm. Sad

The HD interface is also only SATA-I (1.5Gbps) and NOT SATA-II (3Gbps).

I probably will be upgrading a mini 2.1 soon.
I got the 9.5mm thikness, but what about SATA vs SATA2, I only have very limited choice of SATA cdrives, most are SATA2, especially the
Samsung Spinpoint MP4 SATA II - 640 GB (7200 RPM)
I want to use, it is 9.4mm, but stated as SATA2
cabels are the same, but transfer rate will be 150MB/s wich is ok ?

what about the external enclosure and copying the drive, I saw that the mini wont boot if you do not copy the drive beforehand, but I remember when I put my SSD in my newer mini, that I did put it in as is and it worked just fine
I don't mind doing the fresh OSX install.

any hints ?
