I don't really care either way. I voted for Obama last time and will vote for him again this time. But was he in fact really born in the US? What's the real proof these "birthers" have?

Yes. He was born in Hawaii on his zero birthday. A birth notice indicating his birth was printed in a Hawaii newspaper as often happens in local newspapers. His birth certificate, which is a birth certificate, certifies the time and place of his birth. Birth certificate are legal proof of a person being born.
The National Socialist Party in Germany, a/k/a Nazis, invented a propaganda technique called The Big Lie. By constantly questioning the blatantly obvious fact that Obama is a US citizen a certain percentage of persons with poor critical thinking skills can be led to believe the lie.
Any human person born in the USA is a US citizen. This is clear to any second grader reading the US Constitution.

| Let's be honest here. Most of these birthers are just racists looking to smear Obama. They don't like the idea of having a black president and want to destroy his legitimacy. There's a certificate of live birth and announcements of his birth in Hawaiian newspapers. How much more do they want? That's enough for me. Plus, I just love the fact that it irks them so much... |

Yes, with all of the real birthers that is what is going on. Then there are the politicians who find birthers to be conveniently useful idiots, so they appeal to their bigotry and ignorance using birther code words.
Donald Trump seems to realize that only an idiot would vote for him, so having identified his target demographic he is now appealing to them by resurrecting this racist drivel for morons.

I just hope in the end we as a people are smart enough to keep this type of person out of office. Divisive people are bad enough, but what Donald is doing really makes me mad. |

I doubt very seriously if he wasn't born in the States, he wouldn't be president. This would have come out, with real proof, before the election.
It is mostly a smear campaign against him!

I would imagine it's like liberals not believing that GWB did his time in the reserves. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Nobody can prove that he did(as far as I know nobody has collected the $10,000 bounty on evidence), and nobody can prove he didn't.
On another forum, someone posted a YouTube vid, that had been shot at a town hall meeting type deal, and then they edited the audio to make it seem that Obama said he was born in Kenya.
As Ranter mentioned, The Big Lie is going to be with us a long time, and I fear that it's application is only going to get worse.

+1 for what Devo said also. I do remember during Vietnam war, while Kerry and others were fighting, Bush was at home dating then- president Nixon's daughter. I don't think he ever went to Nam!
