How can I password protect my e-mail under my user profile? I know, I know set it up to logout after short time. This does not work as I want this mini as the digital heart of my house. If I make it logout then I cant bring up itunes using remote on my touch or phone. I need to run downstairs and type in the log in password. Defeats the remote. I do not want someone to be able to access my e-mail while I am outside controlling itunes through my multi zone bose stereo system and my ipod touch. Same with screen saver password if i want to turn on itunes I have to go and type in password. Any help appre ciated. _________________ 2010 mac mini upgraded to 2.66mghz. Very First Mac Computer

kerbouchard,
I don't think it can be done.
I suggest setting up fast user switching. You could set up an account that has all the apps you need your remote for. Password protect the account with mail.
You should be able to keep the remote account running all the time in the background... you can then log in out of you main account as needed, set screen savers with passwords whatever you want. That remote account will always be hosting your remote activities.
Another angle that you can look at this solution is to set up a user account just for your email. This may not be practical if you often take files out of your emails and save them within you account. You could however use dropbox for those files and access the dropbox with the password protected account.

Seems excessive to protect one application. Plus inconvenient to switch back and forth between accounts. Any third party apps that do this? What is "Fast User Switching" _________________ 2010 mac mini upgraded to 2.66mghz. Very First Mac Computer

Basically it's a way to run multiple user accounts simultaneously.
Here is a perfect 1:30 explanation on setup and use

You can chose whether or not you want password protection on either account or both. |

Fast User Switching is a great suggestion. It's really not that difficult to deal with. Nothing like trying to switch users in Windows!

Another vote for Fast User Switching.
Alternatively I think you'd have to give up on using mail locally and access your mail via the browser so you log in to access your mail. _________________ Phil

Isn't there something in disc utilities to add an "encrypted disc image?"
Then drop mail in there? _________________ 2010 mac mini upgraded to 2.66mghz. Very First Mac Computer

Setting up the encrypted disc image will only really encrypt the files, but Mail will still be accessible. Or Mail may pitch a fit with the files being encrypted.

+ 1 on this Just one feature can't make comparison of windows to Mac. |
