Does anyone know of free data recovery software that would work with SD cards from a digital camera? A friend asked and I've never used such software. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

I haven't heard of any. It seems to be a category that doesn't offer freebies. If there is any, I'd be interested in knowing as well.
Try a quick search on OS X data recovery freeware.
Just be wary of scams looking to get your email address etc. |

Try RescuePRO, not free but I believe it has a trial. Other than that, no suggestions. _________________ 2.0 GHz i7 Mini 8 GB RAM, OWC Merc Extreme SSD & Samsung Spinpoint

here's some freeware "PhotoRec".
I just went to versiontracker (now part of CNET) and searched on recover, and then filtered by free. |
That actually worked great, aside from being a Terminal program, but not hard to navigate. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

That's great. Lucky
Part of the reason I like owning a Mac. Usually you can find free little apps that are legit without being a form of bait (ie. email harvesting). I wonder how many hoops you would have had to jump through on a PC to get something like that for free?
Good for you! |

A serial crack
Also, since Steam went to Mac and I've been in college I've used my PC less and less lately, if I'm on it it's just to play HL2 mods or other PC exclusive games or games that play better with my Mouse and keyboard over My MBP's keyboard and bluetooth mouse. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

JB, you should edit out that quote, since it keeps the spammers comment in the forum and therefore in the bot indexes for the search engines.

I think it may do what you want w/o the terminal.
I guess what I'm saying is, someone like ME could use it.
UPDATE: Ok, I just finished using "Efix Untrasher" and it worked well.
It was easy and intuitive to use. Its "Read Me" file stated it would not
recover RAW files but it recovered both my jpeg and RAW files
just fine. RAW files tend to be proprietary to the camera manufacturer
so it may not recover your RAW images. FWIS, I used Efix Untrasher
on my iMAC G4 PPC running Leopard and the SD card was a Transcend
16GB SDHC class 6. _________________ 2011 Mac mini 2.7 GHz i7 with
