Installed 10.6.7 yesterday, really wish I hadn't.
I thought I had resolved some of the problems I had after the instal by resetting SMC and repairing disk permissions (of which there were MANY after the update), but unfortunately, problems persist.

Strange characters (windings maybe?) appearing in a word in place of the correct letter.
Firefox freezing.
Thunderbird freezing.

But most problematic is several freezes of the system. Spinning beachball with no processor activity showing, and almost no RAM in use. Only solution has been the power switch!! Sad

Some disturbing entries in Console:- (out of my depth though)

Is there any way to roll back to OS X 10.6.6? All was well when I had that........

Surely somewhere between the mix of minis and external docks shown in your signature line you must have a backup of this system pre 10.6.7?

Oh how I wish. Never again will I update without cloning onto another HDD first.
Lesson learned Sad

When you moved the SSD from the 2007 to the 2009 mini, did you erase, zero out and reload the OS?

No, I just moved the SSD from one to the other (with 10.6.6 on it).
All worked OK after that, right up until the 10.6.7 update yesterday.

Looks like you have some 3rd party things that aren't happy (prefpane stuff, MenuCracker, etc) and perhaps some hardware enablers having issues (EFI boot device). I'd suggest getting saving your data and reloading the OS.

Not a whole lot of difference between the 07 and 09 devices, but I would suggest there is enough difference for the 07 system to not be compatible with the 09 system; the EFI update that allowed 8GB would definitely come to mind.

I noticed a couple of things in there myself. MenuCracker and PeerGuardian have been uninstalled a very long time ago, but still seem to have leftovers.

Not to disagree with your analysis, but why did everything go OK before the 10.6.7 update? 10.6.6 was working quite well on both the '09s, one of them for several weeks, then as soon as I updated to 10.6.7 the problems began.

Dunno, no problems on my 09's, everything updated to 10.6.7 here. Glancing at the update notes for 10.6.7 nothing jumps out at me. It appears to suggest software issues and the software that you appear to be having an issue with is the OS. You might try booting into safe mode and see how the machine behaves.

Suggestion still stands, it's a hassle, but I think after you erase, zero out (for the SSD sake) and reinstall you will have saved yourself time and frustration.

OK I'm convinced Smile

I have a 10.6.2 disk, so can I jump straight to a 10.6.6 update combo from Apple Downloads, or do I have to download .3,.4,.5,.6 to get there?

EDIT:- and I just need the updates, not the bigger combos?

Always get the combo - then you can go from any qualifying version (e.g. 10.6.2) straight to the latest (10.6.7). It will also work for ANY Mac, which saves downloading it again, if you have more than one Mac - as you do.

Don't be shy about the 10.6.7, I'd be interested in it's success or otherwise. Glad to hear you are back up and running. Cheers.

I will stick with 10.6.6 for the moment, only because I am pressed for time (renovations) but when I have time I will clone my SSD, and install 10.6.7.

The way these reno's are going, I will probably go straight to 10.7 Wink

From what I'm seeing at the Mac sites I browse, 10.6.7 is not good for many people.

I see 10.6.8 will be coming soon!

SC

ps - System 6.0.7 was great!

I haven't seen anything on 10.6.8 yet. I wonder why they are looking at another 10.6 release when 10.7 is already in the pipeline?

I truly wish I had been smart enough to embrace the Mac back in the early days. What was so special about 6.0.7? Tiger was my first real experience, and what a pleasant change it was from M$
