I just did another check on Apple care purchased on ebay last feb as of the 21st of jan it is still active.
Pulled from apple site today:

I will keep track of this > I also spoke to 3 other people that purchased this item all of us have working agreements the oldest is dec 2009 the newest is mine feb 2010. I did a lot of research on this it seems that about 1 or 2 in 10 turn bad so risk is involved. Because of that I found a real dealer JR.com for the mac pro applecare I had a savings of 156 vs 250 from them. So I can say if you want apple care try jr.com as they have good apple care sales on occasion .

So It looks like I got a good purchase of applecare on ebay.
At least for the first 13 months.
