I'll post more on it once it arrives and I get it set up. Can't wait! _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

New toys!!
I wouldn't mind having one of those. Do you have regular cable, digital cable or DirectTV? |

Yeah! It's a Christmas present.
Dish Network .. want the EyeTV 500 for over-the-air HDTV channels and
to record those channels.
Got an email from Elgato saying my order has shipped.
I should get it on Friday (2nd day UPS) _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

| What would be the best and least expensive EyeTV box to use with DirecTV? I would like to buy one if the new mini doesn't have some sort of built-in DVR. Do all the EyeTV boxes use Firewire 400? |

http://www.elgato.com is your friend!
I think you'd be looking at the EyeTV 200:

The EyeTV EZ connects via USB 2.0

Miglia makes DVR solutions for Macs as well
(my bro has a Alchemy TV DVR PCI card in his PowerMac G4)

Thanks. The EyeTV 200 looks like the one for me. I would rather have something with firewire instead of USB. Does anyone out there own one? |

I got my EyeTV 500 on Friday morning ... hooked/ set it up in about 5 - 10 minutes.
(once I got the anntena and coaxial cable installed)
I haven't recorded anything yet. I need to free up some more space on my stock 80GB drive.
There is one image up on my Flickr page - of the accessories: Quick Start Guide, Remote and FireWire cable.
I'll be sure to post more in the coming days. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aaron_c/76897986/
Merry Christmas,

| How is Elgato handling transfers to 5G iPods with the EyeTV boxes? Do they have their own piece of software or are they relying on QuickTime? |

Unfortunately, I don't have an iPod to transfer files ..
I'll try encoding a clip .. Elgato has export options for the iPod (with video) in their newest
version of the EyeTV software, 1.8.4. "default" (H.264) and "recommended" (MPEG-4). _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

I also took advantage of the $199 refurb EyeTV 500.
It works great. TimeWarner in my area only has ABC, CBS, and NBC in Clear QAM. I only have standard cable, but these channels come in great. I recorded a football game, an episode of Lost, and some sitcom.
Great quality, and playback is just on the skippy side of smooth off my Mac Mini. I also have the EyeTV software recording directly to an external LaCie firewire HD.
Daisy chaining the two devices together works fine, I don't remember which device is first in the chain though. In the EyeTV manual, it specifies a preferred order. Playback while recording is not so hot in my set up, but I don't plan to be doing that. |
