Mac Pro kybd not work with G4 Mini

I have a 2009 "Nehalem" Mac Pro, which came with that nice flat aluminum keyboard.

Recently had trouble with my G4 Mini's keyboard, and part of troubleshooting, wanted to see if I could duplicate the problem with another keyboard, so I swapped out the MP aluminum kybd.

It did not work in that the G4 didn't see or recognize it and I could neither type nor mouse.

I toggled the Caps Lock key and the little green light did not light up, so that tells me it was not getting power via USB.

does anyone know whether or not this new (as of 2009) keyboard will not work with older macs?

the Mini's own Keyboard seems to have had a temporary issue..I'm typing this post on it just fine.

Maybe it was a loose connection with the original keyboard.

As for the fancy Apple keyboard, I can't say.
