Apple Providing Live Video Stream of Media Event

Apple has announced that they will be broadcasting today's media event live over the Internet. According to the company, the event will be broadcast using Apple's open standard of HTTP Live Streaming. Viewing will require either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad. The event itself is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT.

Can't wait to see the new hardware and software!

If there's a new AppleTV, I wonder what size it's going to be? Will they keep it 7.75x7.75 inches? Will it use the same machined aluminium case as the new Mac mini? Seems doubtful if the price really is going to be 99$USD.

It would be nice if Apple were able to announce television networks deals for both the USA and Canada at launch, but knowing about how complicated it can be, I bet all of Europe will get whatever is announced tomorrow before Canada gets it.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for the PowerBook G5. Maybe this time... Wink

I wish it was live for everybody. I'm really eager to know what's new yet I don't want to upgrade to 10.6 because Leopard is still working great and I see no reason to upgrade. I hope they put up the video before I need to leave for work tomorrow night.

For those of us on our work PC right now (YUK!) Macrumors has a possible work around on their front page. Or we are just stuck with Gizmodo and Engadget live blogging updates.

Woah, what just happened there? The AppleTV presentation got cut short all of a sudden!

edit: I'm not sure of what is happening, but my stream sometimes switch to another video feed. I had a lot of "flickering black pauses" during the streaming. Either they have trouble streaming or the auto-detection of bandwidth isn't quite perfect yet.

edit 2: it seems my stream was going back at the beginning of the recording.

Same deal here. The video feed kept jumping back to the beginning, as people were filing into the arena. A page refresh brought it back live.

Actually, I'm not Very Happy

but they look nice, and nice of them to put buttons back onto the shuffle.

The new iTV ($99) cannot do 1080p, and it is (at least for a while) less hackable because it is iOS/A4 based and has no disk at all...

So for me the decision is buy a "new" AppleTV 160GB for $149 or buy a Mac Mini and teach it to be a media center...

I scored a $149 classic AppleTV while supplies last until I figure out the budget on the Mini.

The new iTV device might be interesting once there are compelling apps for it, but at first glance the only advantage it has over the classic one is Netflix streaming (which I do on my laptop already). Classic AppleTV can do Boxee, XBMC, etc...
